- Great Primary Teaching Resource! Review by My Four Monkeys
-
Rating Many studies have shown that putting information to music and even adding corresponding movements helps children retain information better and longer. That's the basis of a book from Maupin House - 20-in-10: Linking Music and Literacy with Twenty, Ten-Minute Mini-Lessons and Activities for Primary Learners. The activities were created by Luana K. Mitten, and the book includes a music CD with songs by Grammy winners Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer.
Each activity has song that goes with it and is divided into two parts. The first part is teaching your student(s) the song lyrics, tune, and motions. The second part is an activity to reaffirm what's in the song.
We received a copy of 20-in-10 to review, and this has been wonderful for Kylie and John David. It's geared just right for them, reaffirming what we've been learning this year. It has served as a review of sorts. The kids really enjoy the humor and fun put into every song. Kylie's favorite is called "A Ballet Dancing Truck Driver." The CD itself is fantastic and fun to listen to during playtime or in the car, but add the book and the wealth of teaching helps in the lessons and you've got a dynamite duo!(Posted on 5/26/10)
