In Succeeding in Reading, a complete cross-age tutoring program developed by Nancy Dean and Candace Harper, older buddies teach younger buddies the fundamentals of the reading process. By participating, both tutees and tutors will show gains in reading comprehension and vocabulary, but tutors also will gain in other ways, demonstrating increases in confidence, self-esteem, and leadership.
