Maupin House's differentiated classroom solutions focus on how to teach reading comprehension strategies, reading workshop, reading complex texts, and RTI. We approach writing as an academic subject with content, with the goals of creating independent, lifelong writers who can write competently in all assessed genres, who perform well on state assessments, and who attain accepted writing rubrics such as the desired traits of writing.

Our resources show teachers how to explicitly teach writing Target Skills in the writing workshop format to integrate writing craft, writing process, and conventions in all assessed genres, and to help content-area teachers include writing as a learning strategy in their subject areas.

Maupin House supports the instructional power of project-based, hands-on learning with standards-based activities and strategies that engage all students. We help teachers explicitly teach grammar, usage and mechanics skills (GUM) through daily practice and in writing. Our engaging activities and strategies appeal to students at all competency levels.

Maupin House resources equip teachers for the 21st century classroom – by integrating technology, supporting guided inquiry, and incorporating new literacies—such as the graphic novel format—into standards-based literacy curricula. Our resources also show teachers how to integrate poetry, storytelling, and music into the literacy curriculum.
